Seems bold to claim that six Bears have a solid shot at the Pro-bowl. Considering the bleak season most have projected for them. Despite that this team does have some talent spread through out. Factor in how many players don’t go to the Pro-bowl that are voted in and it seems half the league ends up on the roster. Just ask Mitch Trubisky.
Cairo Santos
Little Cairo is at a disadvantage to the rest of the kickers in the league playing at Soldier Field. Not only contending with the wind off the lakefront, but also kicking on the Soldier Field turf. It’s arguably the worst in the league, and has been described as painted dirt by the time mid-season roles around. Despite that Santos has hit 90% of his kicks as a Bear, Including a team record 40 in a row.
Trevis Gipson
Gipson played well after getting the call when Mack went down with an injury. In just nine games he had seven sacks and five forced fumbles. With a knack for slapping the ball out of quarterback’s hands he can be a difference maker.
I don’t expect Robert Quinn to be on the team to deep into the season but the more he is the better for Gipson.
Jaylon Johnson
Johnson has just one interception to this point in his career but he looked like a shut down corner at times last year. Far and away the best corner on the team, look for quarterback’s to stay away from Johnson. However I still see Johnson making big plays this season and building a reputation.
Darnell Mooney
One of the most underrated players in the league, Mooney has been victim to below average play from his quarterback’s, but that will improve this season. He still had over 1000 yards receiving with 86 catches in 2021. Mooney has the tools to be a superstar. With blazing speed, great hands, and excellent route running.
What could hold him back this season is not having a number two wide receiver opposite of him.
David Montgomery
Montgomery was on his way to back to back 1000 yard rushing seasons last year until he went down with an injury. He has progressed every year he has been in the league and that should continue this year. In fact he could have a huge season. If the Bears want any chance at the playoffs they will need him too. You can’t help but always worry about injury with Montgomery however. Such a hard back to bring down he leaves his knees exposed for an ugly injury often.
Roquan Smith
Arguably the best player on the current roster. Smith racked up 163 tackles last year but didn’t earn a trip to the Pro-bowl. With just three sacks and one interception he didn’t have a lot of big plays but he is consistent and in on almost every tackle. I expect a few more big plays out of Roquan this year and finally making the pro-bowl like so many Bears linebackers before him. There you have it, six Bears with a solid shot at the Pro-bowl.
