Cutler Faces Jail Time and Lawsuit After DUI Crash and $2,000 Cover-Up Offer
The Franklin Police Department reported that when officers responded to a crash in October 2024, they located the driver and identified him as former NFL quarterback Cutler.
Officers noticed signs of intoxication such as slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Newly released bodycam footage confirmed these details.
Cutler first denied drinking alcohol, but later admitted to having a small amount. When the officer on duty asked him to take a field sobriety test, he said no, and that led to his arrest.
Cutler faced multiple serious charges following the arrest, which included driving under the influence, having a firearm while drunk, not driving safely, and breaking laws that require drivers to agree to alcohol testing.
He decided to plead guilty to the DUI charge in August 2025. The charge of possessing a handgun while intoxicated was dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Cutler was later sentenced to four days in jail and served about two and a half days before his release.
He was also fined $350. His driver’s license was revoked for one year and he was placed on unsupervised probation for the same period. To address the circumstances of his offense he had to attend a DUI safety class.
The driver Cutler rear-ended in October 2024 filed a civil lawsuit against him in September 2025 to seek damages for physical injuries and emotional distress.
The lawsuit mentions Cutler’s alleged attempt to bribe the driver with $2,000 to prevent him from calling the police.

A third pointed out this heinous crime by exemplifying his father’s death by such a road accident, “Anybody who drinks and drive is a piece of shit and no excuses no second chances you are a piece of shit. Full disclosure my father was killed by a drunk driver. I fucking hate you people.”
Cutler’s DUI arrest has drawn attention to personal responsibility and the dangers of impaired driving. The case shows the importance of making safe and responsible choices both on and off the field.
