The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in an interesting spot as Shilo Sanders made some headlines during Saturday’s preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills. As he is in competition with a few players to make the final 53-man roster ahead of the 2025 season, he made a bone-headed mistake on the field.
Let’s take a closer look at what exactly happened during the game to make Shilo Sanders get a bit of a red mark by the team.
Shilo Sanders Ejected in 2025 Preseason Finale

During the second quarter of the preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills, Shilo Sanders was ejected from the game. He was called for an unnecessary roughness penalty after throwing a punch at Bills tight end Zach Davidson, who was blocking him, after some pushing and shoving.
After the game, Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles addressed the incident.
“You can’t throw punches in this league — that’s inexcusable. They’re going to get you every time. You’ve got to grow from that.”
Shilo Sanders was not made available for comment after the game. He is currently competing for the fourth and final safety spot on the 53-man roster of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against Kaevon Merriweather and Rashad Wisdom. This is not the first time that Shilo Sanders has been ejected from a game as in 2023 with the Colorado Buffaloes, he received a targeting penalty for a hit on UCLA running back Carsen Ryan.
Shilo Sanders had three solo tackles throughout the 2025 preseason. It will be interesting to see if the undrafted free agent is able to make the final roster, a spot on the practice squad, or will be a free agent before Week 1 rolls around.
