Shilo Sanders was one of the players competing to make the 53-man roster for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this season after being an undrafted free agent. With the preseason games officially over, the team has made a decision on whether or not they are going to keep Shilo Sanders on the roster.
Let’s take a deeper dive into what the decision was and what it means for the former Colorado Buffaloes player going forward.
Shilo Sanders Cut by Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Shilo Sanders will not be playing for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as he has been informed that the team is making him one of the final roster cuts ahead of the 2025 regular season. NFL Insider Jordan Schultz was the first to report this, and this makes his journey to the National Football League a bit more complicated.
Shilo Sanders was ejected in the preseason finale on Saturday against the Buffalo Bills for throwing a punch late in the second quarter. He did not put up significant numbers, recording three solo tackles throughout the 2025 preseason. However, Sanders’ agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey added that “we’re hoping he gets claimed on waivers.”
This is going to be interesting to see if another team will claim him and add him to either the practice squad or their own 53-man roster. Getting safety help could be a priority for teams as the roster crunches continue and teams that release players will sometimes add a free agent to fill a void on the roster rather than keep someone who was with them in the preseason.
There are going to be teams that need safety help and it will be interesting if Shilo Sanders is on a roster when Week 1 comes around.
