A major college football program is set to be without its head coach for two games in the upcoming season, including a conference game in relation to a cheating scandal.
The Michigan football program was rocked by allegations of a sign-stealing scandal during their run to the national championship in 2023. Head coach Jim Harbaugh served a suspension for the Wolverines’ final three games of the regular season in relation to the scandal.
College Football: Michigan Wolverines to self-impose punishment

Per ESPN’s Dan Wetzel and Pete Thamel, head coach Sherrone Moore is expected to be suspended by Michigan for two games because advanced scouting scandal. He’s set to miss the Wolverines’ Week 3 game against Central Michigan and Week 4 contest against Nebraska.
“Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore is expected to be suspended for two games for the upcoming 2025 season as part of self-imposed sanctions by the university for the Connor Stalions advanced scouting scandal, industry sources told ESPN,” per the report.
“The suspensions will be for Michigan’s Week 3 and Week 4 games against Central Michigan and Nebraska. Moore will also be barred from any team-related duties during those weeks, and will receive additional recruiting-related penalties. The NCAA can still punish Moore in addition to the self-imposed school penalties. A final resolution is expected before the start of the season.”

Moore was expected to face suspension following a report in August that Moore allegedly deleted 52 text messages with Stalions in October of 2023. The accusation is a Level 2 infraction.
Moore will not miss the first two games of the season. Michigan kicks off the regular season by hosting New Mexico on Aug. 30. They will travel to play Oklahoma on Sept. 6.
Moore has been on Michigan’s staff since 2018, when he served as the tight ends coach. He became the school’s offensive coordinator in 2023. Moore was named as the head coach in 2024 when Jim Harbaugh bolted to the NFL amid the scandal.
Michigan went 9-5 under Moore in his first season as head coach.
