Shemar Stewart, newly drafted defensive end for the Cincinnati Bengals, will not be signing a deal anytime soon, it looks like. According to a recent report by renowned sports writer Mike Florio, the team is not planning on reworking its contract with Stewart until the training camp kicks off.
Stewart was visibly absent during the minicamp sometime back after the rookie was unhappy with a certain clause that was present in his contract. According to the clause, Stewart will have to give up guaranteed money and bonus money if he is not on the roster throughout the period of his contract. The defensive end clearly did not like this, and his agent announced that Stewart will not be signing anything until the contract is reworded.
“Speaking of dysfunction, I read something yesterday about the ongoing impasse with the Bengals and pass rusher Shemar Stewart, the 17th overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft. I believe now, I don’t know because at any point this impasse could be needed. I believe based upon what I know that this isn’t getting done until training camp opens. And remember, the Bengals and Stewart are stuck on some very esoteric language in his contract as a first-round pick. First-round picks get fully guaranteed deals. There is language in these contracts that will void the guarantees if you commit a default guarantees void.” Mike Florio spoke about Shemar Stewart’s rookie contract on ‘Pro Football Talk’.

Shemar Stewart was bagged by the Cincinnati Bengals in the very first round of the draft after his performance for the Texas A&M Aggies. As a result of his being unhappy with his contract, the defensive end has been a no-show at the minicamps, and the team will definitely want him to be a part of the training camp before the regular season kicks off.

Shemar Stewart Labeled Underachiever By Brent Sobleski
While Shemar Stewart is fighting it out with the Cincinnati Bengals for a decent contract, according to a recent report by Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski, the rookie defensive end is highly expected to disappoint. Stewart was a first-round pick, even though his numbers from his college football days were not too impressive.

In Sobleski’s list, Shemar Stewart is fifth out of six in total. According to analysts, the defensive end needs to definitely work on his passing and rushing. He apparently also needs to loosen up his lower body.
