Shedeur Sanders was recently called the better player when compared to Dillon Gabriel by renowned journalist, Colin Cowherd on ‘The Herd’. Both Sanders and Gabriel are newly drafted quarterbacks for the Cleveland Browns, with the latter being selected first in the 2025 NFL draft. While both the players are indeed pretty talented, there have been several groups of people debating as to who has got the better potential for the team’s future.
Sanders split his college football career with the Jackson State Tigers and the Colorado Buffaloes before being selected as the 144th pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft by the Cleveland Browns. On the other hand, Dillon Gabriel was the 94th pick in the third round of the draft after playing college football for the UCF Knights, the Oklahoma Sooners and the Oregon Ducks last.
“I believe this, that Dillon Gabriel was a reach. I don’t think he is an NFL QB of note. I think Shedeur’s gonna win the job. I don’t think he’s great but I think he’s accurate, and he moves well enough.” Colin Cowherd said about Cleveland Browns’ two newly drafted quarterbacks, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders in ‘The Herd’.

In his senior year with the Oregon Ducks, Dillon Gabriel threw for a total of 3,857 yards, scoring 30 touchdowns while managing six interceptions for the team. On the other hand, Shedeur Sanders passed for 4,134 yards, scoring 37 touchdowns for the team, with ten interceptions.
After the draft concluded, there were numerous people who felt that the Browns selected Shedeur Sanders simply as a backup option, and that they did not have any major interest in the quarterback. This was because the Browns already have several quarterbacks in their roster and also selected Gabriel much earlier in the draft.

Shedeur Sanders’ Prediction By Colin Cowherd Refuted By Drew Bledsoe
In the same episode of ‘The Herd’, Shedeur Sanders was defended by Drew Bledsoe. While Colin Cowherd stated that Sanders did not have the tools to make him an incredible quarterback in the NFL’s future, Bledsoe claimed differently.
“I thought he was a first-round talent. I think it’s still sort of a mystery why he fell as far as he did.” Drew Bledsoe said to Colin Cowherd on ‘The Herd’.

Shedeur Sanders was indeed predicted to be a first round pick, long before the 2025 NFL draft could commence. However, as weeks rolled by, Sanders was portrayed as having a brash and arrogant personality which ultimately led to his name being called out in the fifth round of the NFL draft.
