Shedeur Sanders has plenty of work to do before even being considered for the role of starting quarterback by the Cleveland Browns, according to Albert Breer’s recent report. On Monday, Sports Illustrated’s Breer remarked how Sanders will have to navigate various challenges with the team before his role is revealed with the Browns.

Shedeur Sanders, the younger son of Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders, was selected by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th pick in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft. Sanders was expected to be one of the best prospects in the draft, but his stock fell pretty quickly after the media painted him as ‘brash’ and ‘arrogant’.

“It does sound like Sanders, based on the interviews I’ve heard, is starting to settle in as a guy who knows he’ll have to earn just the chance to compete to get on the field in 2025.” Albert Breer reported for Sports Illustrated about Shedeur Sanders’ role in the team.

Shedeur Sanders is not the only quarterback that the Cleveland Browns have on their roster. The team also has Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel in their locker room. Gabriel was another quarterback who was selected in the NFL draft before Sanders. According to sources, Joe Flacco will be the starting quarterback for the Browns in the upcoming season.

The Cleveland Browns will be eagerly hoping to try out their new players in different capacities in the new NFL season. The Browns will open their year by taking on the Cincinnati Bengals, before moving on to the Baltimore Ravens.

Shedeur Sanders Signs Four-Year Rookie Contract With Cleveland Browns

On another note, things are definitely looking slow but positive for Shedeur Sanders with the Cleveland Browns. Sanders recently signed his rookie contract with the Browns for a period of four years. The young quarterback will make $4.6 million by the end of his contract.

Before the NFL draft commenced, football fans and analysts expected Sanders to have one of the biggest rookie contracts. Currently, the $4.6 million seems miniscule when compared to what Sanders is worth as a player according to many fans. Some fans even pointed out that Sanders’ NIL deal is worth way more than his rookie contract.

It is clear that Sanders has plenty to prove before he can score a second contract with perhaps a way larger number than his current one. To compare, Shedeur Sanders’ college football teammate, Travis Hunter scored a $46.5 million contract after being the second overall pick in the draft.
