Shedeur Sanders, Cleveland Browns quarterback, recently got a hit from none other than comedian Shane Gillis, who roasted Deion Sanders’ youngest son at the 2025 ESPY awards. Gillis mocked Colorado University for retiring Sanders’ jersey, even after his performance was not so great and cried nepotism.

Sanders’ journey in the NFL so far has indeed brought out many reactions from both analysts and fans who feel that the young quarterback is where he is at right now all because of the influence of his father, Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders.
“Shedeur Sanders had his jersey number retired at Colorado this year, and people are saying it was because of nepotism because of his father. And it’s not. It’s because he went 13-12 over his career and almost won the Alamo Bowl.” Shane Gillis spoke about Shedeur Sanders at the 2025 ESPY awards.

Shedeur Sanders has definitely experienced plenty of privilege and protection because of his father, Deion Sanders. Deion Sanders had Shedeur Sanders under his wing for his entire college football career with the Jackson State Tigers and the Colorado Buffaloes.

According to many NFL analysts, Deion ‘Coach Prime’ Sanders might be calling the shots for Shedeur Sanders even as the quarterback made it to the big league with the Cleveland Browns. This is not something that every team is okay with and in fact, was theorized to be one of the main reasons as to why several franchises chose to pass on Shedeur Sanders in the 2025 draft.
Shedeur Sanders’ Biggest Flaw Pointed Out By Mary Kay Cabot
While he is incredibly talented, Shedeur Sanders also has his own set of flaws, which may lead to problems on the field in his NFL career. Analyst Mary Kay Cabot recently discussed this in an episode of her show, most particularly talking about Sanders’ habit of holding on to the ball for too long.
“The other area Sanders must address is his pocket presence, but he’s made significant strides there too. At Colorado, he was sacked an FBS-high 94 times over the past two seasons, but he’s worked very hard to correct it since he tumbled from the projected first round of the draft to the fifth. His mentor Tom Brady advised him on draft weekend to study, study, study and Sanders has done just that.” Mary Kay Cabot spoke about Shedeur Sanders.

Tom Brady is not only mentoring Shedeur Sanders on a regular basis, but was even among the first to console the young player after he failed to be called in the first few rounds of the NFL draft. Sanders was only picked in the fifth round of the draft by the Cleveland Browns.
