Following an abysmal one-win season in 2022, the Colorado football program cleaned house before announcing former NFL megastar turned Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders as the team’s next leadman. Sanders, who captivated the sporting world in the 1990s by showcasing his elite dual sports talents in the NFL and MLB, transitioned to becoming an analyst before trying his hand at coaching football. The legendary and outspoken Sanders led Jackson State to a remarkable 27-6 record before filling the Colorado football vacancy.
Primetime used the transfer portal at an unprecedented rate to retool the roster, bringing with him his sons Shilo Sanders and Deion Sanders from Jackson State, among others. The Sanders family, alongside two-way superstar and former top prospect Travis Hunter, changed the culture and perception in Boulder, Colorado, for better or worse. One thing is sure: love or hate them, they stole headlines and became must-see TV. Colorado became a hub for massive NIL deals, but the team’s superstar quarterback, Shedeur Sanders, believes it comes with its pros and cons.
Colorado Football Elite QB Shedeur Sanders Discusses NIL
According to Colorado football quarterback Shedeur Sanders in a sitdown with former Heisman Trophy Award winner and ex-ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III:
I definitely love NIL, but there are pros and cons to it, though. The cons is you gotta don’t feel like you made it already. When you are able to get whatever you want at any time in life, a lot of things don’t interest you no more. So you gotta really get down to the core of what makes you happy…..”
His brother and star safety Shilo Sanders also conferred his opinions on NIL, saying, “People hate on everything they don’t have.“ He also mentioned it is paramount for players to not become only NIL-focused but to continue to work towards the bigger goal, which, for him, is the NFL. More importantly, the two brothers spoke about remaining happy by doing what they love while remaining loyal to their family. According to On3, Shedeur has the highest NIL valuation in the country at $5.1 million. Meanwhile, Shilo sits at $1.0 million regarding NIL valuation, the 33rd highest in the nation.
Since joining the FBS ranks in 2023, Shedeur Sanders has posted super efficient passing numbers with Colorado football. He is also considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. In 14 games, the Colorado signal-caller has thrown for 4,229 yards, 36 touchdowns, and five picks. However, the Buffaloes are only 6-8 with him under center during that span. Colorado enters this weekend 2-1 this season and will host the Baylor Bears on Saturday.
