Shedeur Sanders may have slipped all the way to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft, but don’t count him out just yet.
Despite projections that once had him pegged as a top pick, Sanders fell to the Cleveland Browns at No. 144 overall—an unexpected slide that quickly became one of the most talked-about storylines of draft weekend. But instead of sulking, the 23-year-old QB is locked in, determined to prove he belongs at the top.
Currently, Sanders finds himself in a crowded quarterback room—arguably the deepest in the NFL. Whether he earns a shot at the starting role remains to be seen, but some respected voices in the game believe his potential is undeniable.
Pro Football Hall of Famer Kurt Warner recently gave Sanders a glowing review during his guest appearance on The Jim Rome Show.
“My evaluation was, (Sanders was) the most accurate quarterback I’ve got in this draft,” Warner said. “When he sets his feet, when he’s comfortable in the pocket, he delivers the football, the ball goes where he wants it to go.”

Warner noted that while all rookie QBs will need to elevate their game at the next level, Sanders has the core tools to make it happen.
“There’s a lot to like about Shedeur Sanders. Improvement… all of these guys coming out of the draft this year, I believe must improve if they’re going to be great quarterbacks in the NFL,” Warner added.

Bottom line for Warner? Shedeur isn’t a fifth-round talent—now it’s up to the Browns and Sanders to prove that on the field.
“I Gotta Sell It, Bro”: Shedeur Sanders Jokes About Draft Slide at Rookie Premiere
While many rookies were swapping jerseys at the NFLPA Rookie Premiere in Los Angeles, Shedeur Sanders had a different game plan.

The Cleveland Browns rookie had a fun exchange with Cam Ward, the 2025 No. 1 overall pick, during the event. Ward approached Sanders asking to trade jerseys—but was met with a lighthearted rejection.
“Nah. I gotta sell it, bro. I gotta have some type of money. S—, I’m already down,” Sanders laughed, poking fun at his unexpected drop to the fifth round.
Though the moment was all in good humor, it reflected Sanders’ self-awareness and fire to bounce back. Now with his NFL journey officially underway, expect Shedeur to turn that chip on his shoulder into fuel.
