Shedeur Sanders is already one of the most controversial athletes in the NFL, and he hasn’t even taken a snap. The 23-year-old quarterback fell to the fifth round in the 2025 NFL Draft after being widely projected as a top 10 prospect.
However, his recent admission about his family has shown a different side.
“I’m Just His Son” Shedeur Sanders Goes Nuclear With Family Admission; Shows True Colors

The social media world hates Shedeur Sanders. Also, he understands why:
The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, who began his career at Jackson State, slipped all the way to Round 5 of the 2025 NFL Draft. Sanders, whose dad is the legendary Deion Sanders, was thought of by some – Mel Kiper Jr., anyway – as a first round prospect. But he slipped all the way to Round 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Sanders, who recently signed his rookie NFL contract – worth about $4 million over four years – admitted that he understands why he’s getting so much hate online.
Sanders is blaming his family – or, rather, his father – for 99 percent of the hate he gets online.
And he’s right about that.
“They don’t care about other people’s opinion of you,” Sanders said during an interview with Cleveland.com. “They go based off their own — 99% of hatred [directed at me] is toward pops. And then I’m just his son. But [the kids] didn’t grow up in an era where they watched him play. It’s just the older generation that does it rather than the younger people. Because when I come in person, there’s no negativity I see. But it’s all over online.”

Sanders said that despite the hate he gets, he wants to get out in the community. Sanders wants to let his actions stand for themselves. It’s an incredibly mature and classy admission from the son of the legendary NFL star.
“That’s why I like going [to schools] in person and actually meeting them, and any questions they have, I say, ‘Just ask me whatever question you want. Pick any question. No filter, no anything.’ That’s what they say. And then I just answer whatever they need me to answer.”
Sanders might be getting a lot of hate on social media, but clearly, he has a good head on his shoulders.
It’ll be fun to watch him trying to make the Cleveland Browns roster this summer. He has his work cut out for him.
