Shedeur Sanders’ entrance into the NFL was so eventful that it caught millions of fans’ eyes. More people tuned in to the 2025 NFL Draft than in recent memory largely in part to Sanders’ slide to the fifth round. While the slide wasn’t expected, Sanders is being very clear that he won’t let it impact his career.
However, Adam Schefter recently dropped a bombshell that will shake up the 2025 season.
Adam Schefter Drops Massive Shedeur Sanders Bombshell For 2025 (Report)

A lot of attention will be paid to Shedeur Sanders as the rookie quarterback of the Cleveland Browns in 2025. After falling in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in 2025, Sanders has made waves in the media:
The usual case for fifth-round picks is that they have an increasingly difficult time starting, let alone making the 53-man rosters. What makes the situation with the Browns and Sanders even more complicated is that the team currently has a four-way quarterback battle going on.
Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett are angling for the starting position, and rookies Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are angling to also start somehow, but possibly land a third-string situation.
Now, one of the biggest insiders in the NFL has dropped a major update on the entire situation.
Adam Schefter joined ESPN Cleveland to not only shut down the idea that Sanders would be the starting quarterback, but that he predicts the rookie to also take over at some point.

When Schefter is asked if Sanders will win the starting job, he shuts down with a simple answer.
“Not at the start of the season, I don’t think. Unless he just comes in and lights it up like we have never seen.”
Schefter also indicates that only one quarterback who was drafted in the third round or later has won the starting job, which is Dallas Cowboys star Dak Prescott.
Shefter also indicates that Sanders and Gabriel could certainly come in and impress enough to potentially start, but the likelihood of that would be an “upset.”
“I think it would be an upset if Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett were not the Browns’ opening day starting QB.”
Schefter also mentions Russell Wilson getting the starting job for the Seattle Seahawks when he was also a third-round pick. However, that is the level that Sanders or Gabriel would have to play at to even win the starting job.
Schefter also indicates he would not be surprised if Sanders or Gabriel end up getting the starting job at some point during the 2025 NFL season.
Sanders has to showcase his skills during training camp and preseason that make him the undeniable choice for the starting position. As it stands, that is unlikely to happen unless he showcases some Wilson or Prescott-esque capabilities.
