SEC POWER RANKINGS

SEC Power Rankings Week 12

Every week of college football is another week closer to the end of the season. It also means it is time for Monday’s SEC Power Rankings. Each and every week SpikedJohnnyB has his power rankings out for the PAC 12, SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and ACC. The host of Spiked College Football Show and Units Only Go Up ranks every single power five team. Where did your team fall this week?

SEC Power Rankings: Playoff Contenders

#1 Georgia

Do I really have to talk about why the Bulldogs are number one in the SEC power rankings? Nothing has changed all year. They are the best team in the conference and the country.

#2 Tennessee

It is in my opinion that the Vols are in the playoff if they can win their last two games. Even if TCU wins out, either Michigan or Ohio State will have a loss and they don’t have the resume that Tennessee has. They have the most ranked wins, and their only loss was to the best team in the country on the road by 13. The only way they are not in the playoff is if LSU pulls a minor miracle and beats Georgia; and that is not happening.  The Vols offense is still running on all four cylinders. The defense needs to tighten up when the post season comes along.

SEC Power Rankings: Good Teams

#3 Alabama

Johnny, how the hell can you have the Tide ahead of LSU that just beat them at home by one in overtime? That is actually a very easy question to answer. Read the last part of that sentence and remember the SEC power rankings are based on a game played tomorrow on a neutral site. Alabama would be favorited right now by 4 points or more by Vegas under those circumstances. Everyone is out on the Tide because of two unbelievably close losses. Not me. Look beyond the scoreboard and you will see they are still great. No one wants to play them in post season play and they are still the third best team in the SEC.

#4 LSU

Brian Kelly sure has made a huge impact on the Tigers this year in the Bayou. Huge close win over Alabama and not allowing the let down versus Arkansas last week. This team is playing its best football at the right time. Daniels has turned into a real duel threat QB, and the defense has been stingy and opportunistic lead by freshman Harold Perkins, who is an absolute stud. They are guaranteed to be in the SEC title game versus Georgia, and if Kelly pulls another miracle could back door into the playoff. I think this is a year early, but the young Tigers squad is playing damn good football.

#5 Mississippi State

Now if you just take a look at the box score of last week’s game, you would think I was crazy to put State here. The final score is no indication to how close State played Georgia last week. This team’s offense is elite when it is clicking and the defense can make plays. Their only bad loss was to Kentucky. Other than that, they have losses to the first, third and fourth ranked teams; that’s it. Will Rogers will finish this season strong for coach Leach and will beat an overrated Ole Miss team in the Egg Bowl.

#6 Ole Miss

I told you last week in the SEC power rankings blog that they would not beat the Tide and they were not a great team. I am right about this team. Three of their wins are versus group of five or fcs teams. I guess I could have put them ahead of State, but I think the Bulldogs will beat them in the Egg Bowl. Kiffin is going to Auburn and this team still can’t throw the ball. This is the Oregon of the SEC; fake contenders all year until their schedule got tough.

SEC Power Rankings: The Middle Of The East

#7 Florida, Kentucky, South Carolina

These teams all had very high, obviously unrealistic goals this season. Florida beat South Carolina, South Carolina beat Kentucky, and Kentucky beat Florida. See, it’s a big circle of mediocrity. AR-15 has been wildly  inconsistent. Spencer Rattler has been just an average QB. And Will Levis is the most over hyped QB prospect since Jamarcus Russell. These teams are all bowl eligible and are pretty much the same team; an average SEC school that is very over hyped.

SEC Power Rankings: Bowl Eligible Teams?

# 10 Missouri

Yes, they are under .500 and just got blown out versus Tennessee this past week, but so does everyone else. Mizzou needs to win out to make a bowl. And you know what? I think they are doing it. They are going to kill New Mexico State and then beat a very overrated Arkansas team the last game of the year. That win will get the Tigers to 6-6 and eligible for bowl season, while simultaneously knocking out Arkansas. This team has not shown its full potential with the wins, but they have the talent to be much better than .500.

#11 Arkansas

I told Arkansas fans on Twitter after the A&M loss that they won’t even make a bowl game after starting 3-1. I told them that missed field goal cost them their post season play. We are two games away from making my prediction the truth. Yes, they played LSU tough last week, but that was a classic let down spot. Arkansas won’t be able to stop the Rebels offense and then will lose on the road at Missouri. To start 3-0 and finish 5-7 is a tough year, but I told Razorback fans, Pittman is not the guy and their season would collapse. When will stubborn fanbases just listen? I am not mean. I am right.

SEC Power Rankings: At Least Your Not A&M

#12 Vanderbilt

Very happy for the Commodores getting their first SEC win in 26 games. Coach Clark Lea and his squad shut down the great rushing game of the Wildcats. They also advanced my theory that Will Levis is not a good QB by completely shutting down the passing attack as well. I am happy that Vandy is not at the bottom of the SEC power rankings and hope they use this win as momentum. Maybe next year they can be bowl eligible and continue to rise.

#13 Auburn

War Damn Eagle! I was not surprised, but very happy that Auburn and Interim Coach Cadillac Williams got the win versus A&M last week. He had his boys amped up to play the game and run through walls for him. For one minute let’s live on fantasy island. The Tigers will win this week versus Western Kentucky. And what if they win the Iron Bowl? I know the Tide are a much better team, but it is the Iron Bowl and weird shit happens. That would somehow make Auburn a 6-6 bowl eligible team and Coach Williams will have them in the post season. Does he win the job if that happens?

SEC Power Rankings: You Are A&M

#14 Texas A&M

Pathetic. If Jimbo wants to stay, he needs to fire everyone. Get a very good offensive coordinator, because he should not call any games. And then, I don’t know, pray? I think the talent is going to flee during the transfer portal and it may become very ugly in College Station. This team is at the bottom of the SEC power rankings and might be a bottom team in all of division one football.
