Yes, you have noticed that I already put out the power rankings for the PAC 12 and the Big 12, before the SEC Football Power Rankings. Why didn’t I put out the best conference first? Honestly, because I had to sit in the lab, watch the games and really come out with the best power rankings I could. I did the research and watched the film for you. So, you’re welcome.
Tier 1 Power Rankings:
#1 Tennessee
Hendon Hooker is the Heisman frontrunner after throwing for 6 touchdowns vs. Alabama on Saturday. What an unbelievable game. And the Vols didn’t have their All American Wr and both starting corner backs. They have the biggest win in college football this year and have handled their business versus a decent schedule so far. I think this team is a legit Playoff contender if they continue to play the way they have been.

#2 Georgia
Kirby just has this team in a good rhythm. They have not played their biggest games yet this year but keep winning. The ship is steady right now in Athens, but the tough part of their schedule is coming up and the water might get a little rocky.

#3 Alabama
Tough loss in the most hostile environment this year. Think about it rationally though, they lost on a last second field goal on the road to a great team. That is not a bad loss at all. Saban will regroup and have the tide ready to move up in the power rankings and run through the West.

Tier 2 Power Rankings
#4 LSU
The next group of teams in the power rankings are all good but will all beat each other. I put the Tigers in the first spot of tier two because they beat State and will beat Ole Miss. Their only conference loss so far was to a very good Vols team. I think this team could shake up the west and give Alabama a scare. They won’t win, but make it interesting.

#5 Kentucky
Look, if you follow me on twitter, you know I am at war with the Wildcats fans. It has nothing to do with their team as a whole. I love the way Rodriguez and Smoke run the ball and their defense is great, to even phenomenal. My issue is they think Will Levis is this next great QB, and he just isn’t. He is a very serviceable college QB, but not worth a first round pick and could potentially lose them a big game in SEC play.

#6 Mississippi State
Johnny, there you go again. How the hell do you have Mississippi State ranked over Ole Miss? Well, it is power rankings not standings. I think State is a better team only losing to teams ranked above them. This team is so damn frustrating. I think they will beat either Alabama or Georgia, but they lose to Kentucky. It is aggravating and I still think they are good. Leach needs to get it together because this team is talented.

#7 Ole Miss
Yes, they are undefeated and you think they would be higher in the power rankings. Well, I just don’t trust this team. Auburn just gave them a game at home. Their defense is suspect and so is the pass game. I love the running backs, but again, they have not played a team ranked in the top 70. So how do you know how good they are? Ole Miss, just prove it to me and I will rank you higher.

#8 Texas A&M
I went back and forth on the Aggies to either be the last of this tier or the first in the next. I’ll show Jimbo some respect keeping it close versus Alabama and leave them in this tier of the power rankings. They are a good team. They have so much talent, the QB position continues to plague this team. If they could just get a decent leader a the helm of their offense they could be great. With all the recruits going in each year you would think they would land one. They will make a Bowl and probably win a game in the SEC that they shouldn’t. They are just always 8-4 at best.

Tier 3 Power Rankings
#9 Florida
What to say about the gators this year? I think the only thing you can say is that they will be in games early but next year is the year for this team. You can tell they have the parts to be great. Example being the Utah game. It is all about experience with this team and that’s why next year they will be good. As for this year, they will keep it close in games but do not have the veteran leadership yet to get them over the hump. I really like what Billy is doing in the swamp. Next year for sure.

#10 Arkansas
Coming into the year the Razorbacks had huge expectations coming from their fan base and college football analysts. Well, I never understood it. KJ is a great running QB but can not throw the ball consistently enough to be a real threat. Treylon Burks covered up a lot for him this year. The defense is not very good at all and they get exposed playing mid tier and high tier teams. They should make a bowl game but 7-5 will be their ceiling this year.

#11 South Carolina
Hey, at least you have a winning record and a big win over a good Kentucky team. I still don’t know if it is Rattler or the way they use him. He shows flashes of brilliance then looks horrible. I know Beamer will eventually make the Gamecocks a good team in the East. I think if they make a bowl and win this year it will be a great thing for South Carolina to build on. Just like Florida, maybe next year their power rankings and team will be in a better spot.

Tier 4 Power Rankings/Nobody Cares
#12 Mizzou
For a team that pulls great recruits they never seem to win games or move up in power rankings or standings. I really think one big win versus a great conference team can turn this around, but they never pull it off. This team is littered with talented players that just don’t win. I really have no words as to why they are not better in the SEC East year in and year out. Again, they are on the bottom of the division. Kind of sad for a once annually good team.

#13 Vanderbilt
Hey, look, Vandy, at least you are not last in the power rankings. That is a win for the Commodores. Any week or year they aren’t on the bottom is considered a huge year. Shit, they aren’t completely out of making a bowl game if pigs start flying and all the other SEC teams get sick or something.

#14 Auburn
Like I have said on the Spiked College Football Show and Units Only Go Up. Have you fired Harsin yet? No?Okay, you are last until you change that shit.
Boom, there you have the SEC Week 8 Power Rankings. The best conference this year is starting to get a little clearer. We will see who makes it to Atlanta over the month. Remember, it just means more.
