The Seattle Seahawks Have an Intense Competition for the Last Starting Offensive Line Spot Heading into Their 3rd Preseason Game

The Seattle Seahawks host the Cleveland Browns at Lumen Field Saturday night for their third and final preseason game. The Seahawks, heading into their final preseason game, have four starting offensive line spots locked in. Their expected starters include LT Charles Cross, LG Laken Tomlinson, C Connor Williams, and RT George Fant (if Abraham Lucas isn’t ready) for Week 1.

The starting right guard spot is the only starting offensive line position up for grabs. Here are the two contenders.

Seattle Seahawks competitor #1

The first player competing is Anthony Bradford. Bradford, a fourth-round pick from last year’s draft, enters his second year. He received significant playing time as a rookie, starting ten out of 17 regular season games at right guard.

He has the most experience out of the two contenders.

Seattle Seahawks competitor #2

The second player competing is Christian Haynes. The Seahawks drafted Haynes 81st overall in the 3rd round of this year’s draft. He played college football for the UConn Huskies, starting 49 out of 51 games at right guard.

An update on the current state of the competition

The competition is neck and neck, and neither player has emerged as the front-runner. Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes have received first-team reps with the first-team offense throughout training camp and their two preseason games. Their third and final preseason game could crown the winner.

Mike Macdonald is pleased with the competition.

“They look good,” Macdonald said when asked about Bradford and Haynes following Monday’s practice. “They have a great battle going. I was pleased with the crew that started the game. AB has been a pro about it,” Macdonald added when asked about Bradford not starting a recent joint practice with the Titans. “I commend his attitude. He stacked a few good practices and reps throughout the [preseason] game [versus the Titans]. We’re still in it right now. The competition is yet to be settled.”

Conclusion

To conclude, the right guard position is the only starting spot on the Seattle Seahawks offensive line that hasn’t declared a winner. Both Anthony Bradford and Christian Haynes have performed well throughout training camp and alternated with the first-team offense. The final preseason game could crown the winner.

Will Bradford’s experience give him the edge, or will Haynes, a Day 2 draft choice, win?
