Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald didn’t hide his frustrations after coming up short in a 42-29 loss to the Detroit Lions on Monday night.
“I wouldn’t say it’s a litmus test,” MacDonald told reporters during his post-game press conference. “It just shows us we’re not the team that we need to be at this point.”
Seattle entered Monday night’s game undefeated, but proceeded to allow 42 points to the Lions, including wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown catching and throwing a touchdown pass and quarterback Jared Goff to finish a perfect 18-of-18 passing for 292 yards with two touchdowns.
“I mean, that’s just — that’s what it is. Just wasn’t good enough,” MacDonald elaborated. “They did what they did to win the game, they did a great job, they had a great plan, and we came up short.”
Next up, the Seahawks have the chance to turn things around, as the New York Giants limp into town following a divisional loss to the Dallas Cowboys last Thursday night.
Still, MacDonald believes how the Seahawks respond to Monday night’s loss will be crucial in Week 5.
“So, it’s, how do we move forward right now as a football team,” MacDonald said. “And take the next step because we’ve got a short week coming up and there’s urgency — I mean, there’s always an urgency, but we’ve got to go to work here over the next few days and make this right.”
