After entering the week roughly $13 million over the cap, the Seattle Seahawks have been making roster moves nonstop since yesterday and are now salary cap compliant. Seattle released George Fant, Roy Robertson-Harris, Dre’Mont Jones, and Rayshawn Jenkins, freeing $27.25 million, and has around $16 million in cap space. However, that is not enough for the Seahawks to retain talent and add free agents this offseason, especially since they have a lot of team needs.

The Seattle Seahawks offensive star was on the chopping block

Tyler Lockett had a disappointing 2024 season, seeing his receptions, targets, yards, and touchdowns dip as Jaxon Smith-Njigba took most of his targets. Lockett caught 49 passes on 74 targets for 600 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games. He had the lowest number of receptions since 2017, the lowest number of targets since 2018, the fewest receiving yards since 2017, and tied for the fewest receiving touchdowns since 2017.
Lockett entered the first year of his 2-year, $29.66 million restructured contract. He was set to earn a $10 million base salary along with a $30.895 million cap hit in 2025. Because of his high salary, he was on the chopping block.
