The Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers squared off in a divisional battle on Thursday Night Football, hosted by Amazon Prime.
The Seahawks and Amazon are now catching heat from fans for their use of a Macklemore song in the broadcast. Macklemore is a rap artist who has long been associated with the Seahawks.
Macklemore was recently condemned by the Seattle Seahawks
Macklemore, most famous for his 2012 hit “Thrift Shop,” performed at the “Palestine Will Live Forever” festival in September.
His actions at the festival, which included saying “f**k America,” resulted in massive backlash directed at the artist. He later addressed the incident, calling it a “slip up,” yet he still made sure to pledge his “unwavering” support for Palestine while having more directions for the American people as described in an article from Pitchfork.
Macklemore said Americans should “rise and recognize our collective power rather than succumb to our own apathy.” The event, he said, was “rooted in peace, love, and solidarity” and should not have been “overshadowed by two words.”
The Seahawks, Mariners and Kraken all distanced themselves from their heavy associations with Macklemore for his “increasingly divisive comments.”
Some fans support the backlash he has received while others think his silencing is an indictment on free speech.
Yeah you can’t support Macklemore after that 👎
