Head coach Sean McVay has now spoken for the first time about the shocking arrest of one of his owner players. The Los Angeles Rams receiver Demarcus Robinson was arrested early on Sunday morning after this game, on suspicion of a DUI.
The receiver was pulled over at 5 A.M. Monday morning just hours after their crushing loss to the Philadephia Eagles.
Sean McVay Opens Up About Demarcus Robinson’s Arrest
Per the reports, Robinson was driving extremely fast, and potentially under the influence when he was arrested early Monday morning:
Law enforcement sources tell us — the NFL wide receiver was arrested early this morning on an L.A. freeway on suspicion of DUI … after he was initially pulled over by cops for allegedly driving over 100 MPH.
Shortly after 5 AM, an officer observed Robinson’s white Dodge sedan speeding at the alarming rate. The officers conducted a traffic stop and noticed Robinson appeared to show signs of impairment, raising suspicions that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Our law enforcement sources say Robinson refused to perform a field sobriety test on site. He was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI and transported to a station for processing. We’re told Demarcus identified himself to cops by his name and said he was an L.A. Rams player.
On Tuesday, just one day after the arrest, McVay spoke to the media about the situation and about Robinson in general. He shared that the team is going to get as much information as possible on the situation before making any decisions on Robinson for this week’s game, and the future in general:
“I do believe that Demarcus has a good heart and never would have any ill intentions and clearly there was a decision that’s not in alignment with the things we want to be about,” McVay said, via ESPN. “I know he was remorseful about that.
“I don’t think this makes him a horrible human. I think he made a bad decision and I think we are fortunate that there weren’t anything … there wasn’t anything else that occurred as it relates to affecting anybody else in a negative way or himself from just an overall safety and health perspective.”
Robinson caught two passes for just 15 yards in the Rams’ destruction just hours before his arrest, but he did secure a touchdown. He has been a very solid third receiver for the Rams after their top two stars, and he would be a huge loss if the team decided to cut him because of the arrest.
If he is indeed sidelined due to his actions, then that will give more opportunities for both Tutu Atwell and Tyler Johnson, and they would need their top two star receivers to step up big time.
The Rams are right in the thick of their division even at 5-6, and they are still right in the mix to make the postseason. All the rest of their games will be crucial for their playoff hopes, and it would be a huge loss if Robinson can’t play in any of these games as they need every win they can get.
