Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott names 2023 defensive playcaller
The Buffalo Bills will have a new coach calling plays on defense for the 2023 season. Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier is taking a year off in 2023 from coaching in the NFL. His decision came in an offseason where the Bills made several coaching changes after losing in the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the Cincinnati Bengals. Head coach Sean McDermott named the defensive playcaller for the 2023 season during the League Annual Meeting.

According to the Bills website, McDermott said he would be in charge of calling the defense next season:
“Taking it from the time that Leslie took the year off to now, I think we’ve been working well together, and I’m very encouraged by that,” McDermott said. “We’ve got coaches on staff. As I mentioned before, not going to go outside to fill that role. It’s heading towards me, and really at this point, I’m going to be the play caller. But at the same time, have tons of confidence in the guys that we have around me that if I need to toss it to them from time to time, I can do that.”
The Bills defense look different from the 2022 team. The Bills lost star linebacker Tremaine Edmunds who signed with the Chicago Bears in free agency.
