The Seattle Seahawks were utilizing the offense better; Geno Smith was giving the ball to tight ends, running backs, and wide receivers.
Don’t hold back!
Pete Carroll had advice for Geno Smith. The basic gist was an emphasis on passing. Down-field, mid-field, any passing would do. The Seahawks only had 17 points total between week 1 and week 2, and the last 6 quarters were scoreless.
Smith took this advice to heart. He threw more often and to a wider array of players.
Unfortunately, it was also Geno Smith’s passing that ended the Seahawks last posession of the ball with an interception. The Falcons were given the ball in the 4th quarter, with just over 1 minute. This could have been the drive that put the Seahawks in front of the Falcons, and instead they lost 23-27.
With a cup half whole attitude, there were improvements this week. 23 points, for example, is higher than prior game points combined. There also was that emphasis on passing that Carroll asked for. Geno Smith went 32/44 for 325 yards, and 2 TD’s.
The tight ends joined the party today. That’s not something we have always seen with the Seahawks. Noah Fant was targeted, and Will Dissly was utilized more, winning the Hawks a TD.
Metcalf also has gotten his first TD of the season today, and was targeted more often than in past games. Tyler Lockett was as good as ever, including catching a 20-yard pass. The best receiver duo was back at it again.
Even the running backs were in on it. Geno Smith even had Rashaad Penny catching a few passes. Penny ended the game with 66 yards. Kenneth Walker III sticked to running the ball, but it was exciting to see the rookie active on the field this week.
Other notable events:
Jumping over people was the name of the game.
Metcalf jumped over a player:
And Falcons player, Richie Grant, also leaped over people seemingly defying gravity:
Surprisingly, the game was delayed for 8 minutes for a drone. The drone was in the airspace above the field, and was there without permission. In result, both teams had to clear Lumen field until the drone was dealt with.
Interestingly, there was an unexpected drone last night at the Washington-Stanford game as well.
