Seattle Seahawks running back Chris Carson is retiring after a five year career in the NFL with the Seattle Seahawks. A neck injury that derailed Carson’s 2021 season is the reason for his retirement. After failing a physical heading into training camp, the Seahawks released Carson with injury protection benefits.
Seventh Round Pick Success Story
Chris Carson was drafted as a 7th round pick out of Oklahoma State in the 2017 NFL Draft. In just the second week of his rookie season showed he was ready for the league. Carson carried the ball 20 times for 93 yards in a win over the San Francisco 49ers. Unfortunately Carson’s promising rookie campaign abruptly came to an end Week 4 against after injuring his ankle against the Indianapolis Colts.
The next two seasons Carson would become a monster on the football field. In 2018 he ran for 1,151 yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. He followed that season with 1,230 rushing yards and 7 rushing touchdowns in 2019.
During the 2020 NFL season, Carson missed four games due to an ankle injury. Carson still managed to accumulate 681 yards on 141 carries.
His 2021 season was also cut short due to a neck injury against San Francisco in week 4. This would be the last time we would see Carson on the gridiron.
Playing for a team that was known for legendary hard-runner Marshawn Lynch, Carson would provide his own bruising style of running the football.
