Saquon Barkley Speaks Up On Potentially Breaking NFL Record in 2025

In a recent appearance on the “Green Light with Chris Long podcast,” which  is a production of Yote House Media, Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley shared his thoughts on potentially breaking the NFL’s all-time record for most rushing yards in a single regular season in the 2025 campaign.

It can be recalled that Barkley had a clear shot at breaking Eric Dickerson’s record in the 2024 NFL campaign, but he was rested in the final game of the regular season against his former team, the New York Giants. With that, Dickerson managed to keep his record of 2,105 rushing yards, which he set back in the 1984 season. Barkley, meanwhile, ended his first regular season with the Eagles with 2,005 rushing yards, the eighth-most in a regular season in NFL history.

“I’m a big believer that you don’t force anything,” Barkley told Long, who won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots and the Eagles.” If it was meant to be, it was meant to be. I can go back and show you five clips right now that if I did this or did that, the record would have been shattered. There’s always next year,” added Barkley.

Saquon Barkley still set a new NFL rushing record despite falling short of Erick Dickerson’s

The ninth player to rush for at least 2,000 rushing yards in a season, Barkley generated 499 more yards on the ground in the NFL playoffs, which made him the all-time single-season leader (including the playoffs) in rushing yards.

He broke that record, which was previously held by Terrell Davis, during the Eagles’ Super Bowl game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Barkley is 28 years old and will be 29 next February, so there should still be enough juice for Barkley to go for Dickerson’s record, but at the same time, breaking it is going to be easier said than done, especially after the workload he had in 2024.
