The 6-8 San Francisco 49ers currently sit in last place in the NFC West Division and 11th place in the NFC Playoff Picture. The 49ers have less than a 1% chance of making the playoffs and can only clinch a playoff berth by winning the NFC West Division; here’s how they can clinch their division. Anyway, the 49ers play against the Miami Dolphins on the road for Week 16, the Detroit Lions at home for Week 17, and close against the Arizona Cardinals on the road for Week 18, the regular season finale.
The San Francisco 49ers’ elite Pro Bowl left tackle hasn’t played since October
Trent Williams must’ve injured his ankle in Week 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because he popped up on Week 11’s injury report with an ankle injury. Williams played every single snap in Week 11 against the Seattle Seahawks, but that was the last game he played this season. The elite left tackle has not practiced during Weeks 12 through 15, and as a result, he missed four straight.
The San Francisco 49ers revealed a pessimistic injury report
During Wednesday’s press conference, head coach Kyle Shanahan told the media they would play Trent Williams if he were healthy enough to play. Shanahan also goes on to say they might shut down Williams for their final three games of the regular season since he isn’t progressing the way they hoped. Here’s what the head coach had to say about the subject matter:
“I mean, if he could get back to [being] healthy, we’d play him,” Shanahan said. “But it’s not looking like that right now, so it’s getting closer to being that way.”
Who replaced the future Hall of Famer?
49ers’ former fifth-round pick from the 2021 NFL Draft class, Jaylon Moore, has taken over at left tackle for the past four games. Overall, Moore has done a nice job of filling in for the future Hall of Famer. He has surrendered eight pressures, six hurries, two QB hits, and zero sacks allowed in Year 4 while posting a 78.5 pass-blocking grade, a 71.3 run-blocking grade, and a 77.9 overall PFF grade on the season.
