The San Francisco 49ers already have one of the top defensive lines in the game. They have now added more talent to the unit. Defensive end Taco Charlton has signed with the team and joins a group led by Nick Bosa.
San Francisco 49ers Add DE Taco Charlton
Charlton was the 28th overall pick in the 2017 draft. The Cowboys were hoping that he could become the next dominant edge. That did not happen as during his two years in Dallas he was only able to accumulate four sacks. He has then bounced around the league dealing with injuries often. He now gets a chance to become a contributor on a really good team. Charlton will not have to be the star in San Francisco. He can become part of a rotation of linemen that is looking to terrorize quarterbacks.
Depth Or Insurance?
Bosa has not signed an extension yet and many are wondering when this will get done. While some look at this as a depth move, the 49ers may want to add an insurance piece in case the Bosa situation goes south. Personally, I think it is the former. Especially with it simply being training camp, the team may simply be looking to see if Charlton can give them another huge piece to work with on the defensive line. If he works out, great! If not, they can easily cut him before the final rosters are chosen.
The San Francisco 49ers are hoping that Taco Charlton can live up to the first-round expectations. If he can, the 49ers are going to be scary good on the line this year.
