Last week, the San Francisco 49ers received devastating news that one of their players, first-round rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, was shot in an attempted robbery. While en route to a signing event, Pearsall was held at gunpoint for his Rolex watch. In the scuffle, Pearsall and the assailant were shot while engaging in a fight for the gun.
Pearsall was rushed to the hospital and, despite a severe medical condition, earned his release the next day. Since then, the perpetrator was prosecuted in juvenile court on Wednesday, with the 17-year-old teen likely to face criminal charges as an adult. Meanwhile, Pearsall has returned to practice and has even suggested he will be healthy enough to dress out on Monday Night Football against the New York Jets. Pearsall’s recovery is nothing short of a miracle, with head coach Kyle Shanahan sharing his shock with the media on Thursday.
San Francisco 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan Praises Ricky Pearsall for Recovery
According to KNBR, the official home of the San Francisco 49ers:
It’s a miracle. Where he got shot is two inches below his tattoo with praying hands. The whole story is kind of amazing.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan did not beat around the bush when expressing his surprise with the recovery of rookie pass catcher Ricky Pearsall after he became a victim of a shooting last week. Shanahan continued, saying that the ER doctors expressed to him that only 2% of those who suffer a similar gunshot wound survive. However, despite Pearsall indicating he is on track to play Monday, San Francisco will hold him on the sideline for at least the next week before his rehab assignment begins. The 49ers placed Pearsall on the NFI following the robbery attempt, meaning he will be on the shelf for the team’s first four games.
The 31st pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Pearsall played his first three seasons at his hometown, Arizona State, before transferring to the Florida Gators. After posting a career-best five touchdowns in 2022, Pearsall tallied 85 receptions, 965 yards, and four touchdowns last year.
