San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy is about to play in the biggest game of his life on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. But win or lose, Purdy’s high school is already immortalizing Mr. Irrelevant in pretty awesome fashion.
Purdy, who was born and raised in Arizona, attended Perry High School in Gilbert, Ariz. He was a dual-sport athlete who played both football and baseball for the prep school.
Purdy led Perry to the football state championship twice and lost both times to Chandler High School. But despite losing out on the championship hardware, Purdy left a lasting impact on the school before eventually moving on to Iowa State as a three-star college recruit.
San Francisco 49ers Quarterback Brock Purdy Gets His Name Immortalized By His Local High School
Perry High School and the town of Gilbert decided to unveil a special surprise for Purdy ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
The town and school collaborated to rename PerryPuma Drive — the street outside Perry High School — to Brock Purdy Way. The students at the school were also made to wear special shirts on Friday in honor of their famous alumnus.

Purdy took the reins as a starter at Perry during his sophomore year and never looked back. Now, he can look back to see his name permanently printed on the street sign where it all began.
Brock Purdy’s Story With the San Francisco 49ers May Only Just Be Beginning
Purdy’s ascension from middle high school prospect to Super Bowl-starting QB saw its humble beginnings in Gilbert and its population of around 280,000 residents. Those same residents are clearly proud to see one of their own making a name for himself while playing America’s most popular sport.
Purdy’s story is perhaps just at its infancy. After cementing his place as the 49ers’ starter this past season, he has a chance to etch his name in the NFL history books with a win over Patrick Mahomes.
One can only imagine what kind of honor Gilbert, Arizona will cook up if Purdy bests Mahomes on Sunday and continues to thrive in the NFL for years to come. Brock Purdy Way may only just be the beginning.
