The San Francisco 49ers are heading into the 2024 NFL season as Super Bowl favorites once again. After falling short in the big game to the Kansas City Chiefs last season, Brock Purdy and company are expected to have a good shot at taking the next step and winning a championship.
A lot of those hopes have to do with Purdy and his performance. If he improves even more from where he has been over the last two years, the 49ers’ offense will be nearly impossible to stop.
Unfortunately, it does appear that San Francisco will lose star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk. Trade rumors are swirling aggressively around him and it seems a matter of when and not if he’s moved.
All of that being said, Purdy is receiving a lot of hype and excitement from his head coach, Kyle Shanahan.
San Francisco 49ers Coach Doesn’t Hold Back About Brock Purdy
During a recent quote, shared by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, Shanahan spoke out glowingly about his starting quarterback.
“Brock is exactly what you want to coach. He’s not sensitive. He’s truly comfortable with the truth. He allows you to coach him. He sees what’s wrong. You don’t have to sugarcoat it. He’ll see it before you do. …Brock is unique in that way.”
Purdy is coming off of a big-time season in 2023 for the 49ers.
He ended up completing 69.4 percent of his pass attempts for 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also picked up 144 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Topping those numbers won’t be easy for the 24-year-old quarterback. However, if he does, the San Francisco 49ers are going to be in a very good position on the offensive side of the football.
It will be interesting to see how the 49ers’ offense adapts to not having Aiyuk on the field, assuming they do trade him. He has become a go-to target for Purdy.
All of that being said, the San Francisco 49ers are going to be very entertaining to watch this season. Fans should buckle up for what should be a very fun all-around year.
