The San Francisco 49ers won their first game of the season 32-19 against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football. Both the offense and the defense looked sharp in the team’s season debut, even with some key injuries. One of these injuries includes star running back Christian McCaffrey, who sat out of tonight’s game with a calf injury. Following the matchup, head coach Kyle Shanahan gave a devastating update on their superstar.
San Francisco 49ers Make Devastating Announcement
Shanahan revealed in the postgame press conference that McCaffrey’s injury could linger for several weeks, which could cause him to miss more games. NFL analyst Adam Schefter reported that the star running back is becoming more and more likely to miss next week’s matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
According to @AdamSchefter, there’s a good chance RB Christian McCaffrey DOES NOT play against the #Vikings on Sunday due to his injury 👀

Will the 49ers Still Succeed?
The team started running back Jordan Mason against the Jets, and he was able to produce big time for them. He amounted to 147 rushing yards on 28 carries for one touchdown against an elite New York defense, surprising 49ers fans and coaches. This performance gives everyone more confidence that the team will be able to still dominate without their superstar in the backfield.
49ers Fans React
While Mason put on a great performance on Monday Night Football, 49ers fans are still devastated that they might have to go another week without McCaffrey. Here are some of the reactions on social media to the news:
"Not only is McCaffrey out tonight, but there's a real chance that he's not going to play on Sunday either"
This whole thing stinks. https://t.co/Ytn06jFgVj

Do you think McCaffrey will be able to play next week against the Vikings, or will he continue to sit out until he is fully recovered?
