It’s quite clear that the 2024 San Francisco 49ers have had an uphill battle. The defending NFC Champions have dealt with blown leads and mounting injuries in their journey to get back to the Super Bowl. Week after week, 49er fans keep hoping their team will turn the corner and get back to what they once were.
Unfortunately, the 2024 San Francisco 49ers have not had it this year. The talent is still there, but something is definitely missing. Obviously, the injury bug has not been kind to the 49ers, that’s for sure, but that killer instinct they once had remains absent. The loss to the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday dropped the 49ers overall record to 5-5, 1-3 against the NFC West. This game was not only their third loss to a division foe, but their third after having a lead going into the fourth quarter.
How could the talented 49ers blow fourth-quarter leads to the Rams, Cardinals, and Seahawks? At some point, you can’t continue to blame injuries for this disastrous season. You have to ask, where has the sense of urgency been for the 49ers?

Another One Bites The Dust
Entering their contest against the Seahawks, the 49ers were without their all-world tight end George Kittle. Kittle was ruled out due to a hamstring issue, leaving his status unclear moving forward. Then on Monday morning, the 49ers were told that their signal caller was added to the injury report. Brock Purdy is dealing with right shoulder soreness and is currently listed as day-to-day.
Purdy has been the glue that has kept the reeling 49ers together. Not bad for a guy who has been highly criticized by the media since he first came into the league. It seems that no matter what Purdy has accomplished thus far, it’s never good enough for the national media. With Purdy dealing with a bad shoulder, and Kittle on the shelf, the rest of the team will need to step up if these two can’t go.
Brock Purdy wasn’t the only 49ers player to get banged up on Sunday. Nick Bosa entered the contest with a bad hip and oblique but knew his banged-up team needed him. After sacking Geno Smith in the third quarter, Bosa felt a sharp pain on his opposite side and did not return. Bosa admitted that he was “compensating” for his other side which bothered him prior to the game. The 49ers can not catch a break, plain and simple. Will the 49ers have enough players to finish the season at this point?
Deebo Needs To Step Up
One player that the 49ers could really use right now is Deebo Samuel. Samuel has shown apparent frustration at times this season, and that frustration finally boiled over a couple of weeks ago. During their contest against the Buccaneers, Samuel shoved long snapper Taybor Pepper in the facemask after confronting kicker Jake Moody. Moody had just missed his third field goal of the game, so naturally Samuel let his emotions get the better of him. Moody was just coming back from an injury that sidelined him for a few weeks, so he was destined to be a little rusty.
As a leader of the team, you would think Samuel would offer some encouraging words to Moody instead of yelling in his face. Samuel continues to underperform in 2024 after an impressive 2023 campaign. This is no surprise considering how bad things have gone for the 49ers. Maybe deep down Samuel knows this season is a lost cause, but there are still seven games left to right the ship. The 49ers are currently in a three-way tie for second place in the NFC West, which is incredible considering how inconsistent they have been. There is still time for them to figure things out, but not much.
