Haason Reddick could be on the move again.
After being traded to the New York Jets by the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this offseason, Reddick has been unable to reach an agreement on a new contract extension with his new team and was absent from the Jets’ offseason program.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets are reluctant to sign Reddick to an extension. Reddick turns 30 in September, and as Crimini points out, New York, instead, hopes to “try to satisfy him by sweetening his current deal.”
This spring has been an inauspicious start to Reddick’s time with the Jets, there’s always the possibility that New York moves on from the veteran pass-rusher who was named a Second-Team All-Pro in 2022 before he even plays a snap in North Jersey.
Could the San Francisco 49ers Trade for Haason Reddick?
Few teams have been more aggressive on the trade market in recent seasons than general manager Jon Lynch and the San Francisco 49ers.
Whether it was adding Christian McCaffrey in 2022 or picking up edge rusher Chase Young on the cheap head of the 2023 trade deadline, the 49ers have consistently pushed all the chips into the middle of the table when it comes to adding veteran difference-makers.
Haason Reddick could be Lynch and the 49ers’ next high-profile target.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox put together a list of veterans who could be top trade targets this summer, including linking the 49ers to trading for Reddick.
“The San Francisco 49ers have a strong pass-rushing tandem,” Knox writes for B/R. “After adding Leonard Floyd in free agency to complement Nick Bosa. However, a team with Super Bowl aspirations—which the 49ers clearly have—cannot have too many good pass-rushers, and San Francisco remains $30.4 million below the cap.”
San Francisco’s cap space, and the pressure to hoist a Lombardi Trophy this season before needing to commit significant resources to make Brock Purdy one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league this offseason could be exactly the appeal Lynch needs to pull off a blockbuster for Reddick.
Knox suggests Reddick could be had in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, which could be a small price to pay for a potentially difference-making talent at a premium position for a team all-in on a Super Bowl run.
