Talk around San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy continues to intensify as Super Bowl LVIII approaches. Some believe he’s the heir apparent to Joe Montana while others insist he’s a glorified game manager.
The arguments got loud enough that stars from other sports began pitching their two cents on the matter. A Bay Area basketball icon is the most recent defender of the second-year QB from Iowa State.
Draymond Green slams slander of San Francisco 49ers’ Purdy
Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green pushed for Purdy, saying that the slander for the San Francisco 49ers’ QB1 must stop now. He argued that the young QB has done enough in his short NFL career to be respected as one of the league’s most elite signal callers.
Alex House of ClutchPoints detailed Green’s take on the issue:
“There’s been a lot of Brock Purdy slander over the last couple years,” Green said, via ClutchPoints (originally Warriors on NBCS). “I saw Stephen A. Smith said, ‘If he shows up in the Super Bowl, no more questions about Purdy!’ I know better than that because he can show up in the Super Bowl and if he starts off the season bad, they’re going to be like ‘he’s a game manager.”‘
Brock Purdy put on a solid season for the high-flying 49ers. He had an impressive tally of 4280 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, and a league-leading 113.0 QB rating through 16 games.
His impressive stat line doesn’t ignore any of the growing pains he is still going through. His terrible outing against the Baltimore Ravens showed that the 24-year-old still has room to grow.
However, it’s undeniable that the Niners struck gold when they drafted Purdy with the last pick of the 2022 Draft.
Brock Purdy’s brother trolled him after NFC Championship win
Purdy’s star is shining brighter after leading the San Francisco 49ers in a comeback victory against the Detroit Lions. However, he’s not impervious to a bit of teasing from the people closest to him.
According to talkSPORT’s Joshua Rogers, his younger brother compared Mr. Irrelevant to a famous online personality who looked exactly like him:
The signal caller’s younger brother, Chubba Purdy, joined the QB on the field and shared footage of himself teasing Brock by referring to an infamous viral meme.
“Anna Frey going to the Super Bowl!!!,” Chubba yelled to Brock who laughed.
“Stop”, the 49ers quarterback responded.
It was light-hearted trolling that made people who heard the moment chuckle. However, Detroit Lions fans who witnessed his second-half heroics over their Lions would not find his performance funny.
