One of the biggest questions of the offseason for the San Francisco 49ers got addressed with finality, with the NFC West division franchise giving superstar tight end George Kittle a shiny new contract extension.
The Niners signed Kittle, who will be 32 years old in October, to a four-year, $76.4 million extension, ensuring that one of the greatest players in franchise history will be calling San Francisco home in the NFL for years to come — barring surprises, of course.
San Francisco 49ers GM speaks up about Kittle after contract extension

After Kittle announced his contract in a recent appearance on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast, 49ers general manager John Lynch shared a sincere message for the six-time Pro Bowler.
Via Nick Wagoner of ESPN:
“In 2017, our first year with the 49ers, we selected a skinny tight end from Iowa whom we were really excited about. We had high hopes, but no one knew that he would become the player that he is today. George’s leadership, enthusiasm for the game, for his teammates, and the Faithful are truly unique and special. He is an outstanding representation for the 49ers on the field and is an outstanding representative for the organization off the field with his investment in the local and military communities. He has a great sense of pride in his role and has put in the work to be one of the best tight ends in the NFL.”
Kittle has come a long way in his pro career, especially for someone who was not an early draft pick. He was selected by the 49ers in the fifth round of the 2017 NFL draft as that year’s 146th overall pick.
Kittle would then become one of the greatest tight ends not just of his generation but in NFL history. He has four 1,000-yard seasons with 45 total touchdown receptions in his career, thus far.
