The San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is entering his ninth season in the NFL, and he’s never played for any other team thus far in his pro career. His chances of playing his entire time in the NFL with the Niners have been given a boost after he signed a four-year extension with the team worth $76.4 million last April.
His contract with the 49ers did not simply land on his lap easily, as there appeared to be some serious discussion between his side and the team before he ultimately put pen to paper.

Kittle said the negotiations included a little bit of drama. He declined to elaborate on it but acknowledged it would be “fair to say” there was at least a minor disagreement on his value.
Despite the hiccup, Kittle is happy that he’s under contract through the 2029 season.
At the end of the day, Kittle and the Niners agreed to be on the same page, as they continue their partnership that began when San Francisco selected him in the fifth round (146th overall) of the 2017 NFL draft.
“It’s somewhere that I want to be for as long as I possibly can be because I go to work every single morning and I look up and I’m walking into Levi’s Stadium as my office,” Kittle shared. “I am just so beyond lucky and I am so happy to be able to be here for longer.”

In a recently published piece by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN about how some league executives, coaches and scouts ranked the 10 best tight ends in the NFL right now, Kittle came in No. 2 overall.
One scout from the AFC said that Kittle is the “most complete player at the position,” when he’s not injured.
Kittle has been a Pro Bowler in each of the last four seasons, with two consecutive 1,000-yard years to his name going into the 2025 campaign.
