Greenlaw played well in his season debut, recording eight tackles in 30 defensive snaps while posting an 87.6 PFF grade.
The San Francisco 49ers linebacker’s first game didn’t last long
Unfortunately for the star linebacker, Dre Greenlaw’s season debut against the Los Angeles Rams was cut short. Greenlaw exited the third quarter and was later spotted on the sidelines without his helmet. As a result, he missed the remainder of the game as he sat on the bench.
Many fans were worried, hoping he didn’t suffer a significant injury.
He should be fine
During their postgame press conference, Dre Greenlaw told the media his knee didn’t feel right and it felt tight. Greenlaw also went on to say that he didn’t finish the game for precautionary reasons. “The knee just kind of felt a little weird, so I wanted to protect myself a little bit,” Greenlaw explained after the game. “Knee just didn’t feel right, everything kind of got a little tight. Just kind of had to make sure to use precaution with it.”
Head coach Kyle Shanahan repeated the same sentiment, saying that it was for precautionary reasons, “He was unbelievable tonight,” coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters after the 12-6 loss to the Rams. “And I think we played, I think we took him off, I’m not exactly sure, but I think we took him off the first two series to start the third quarter. I believe he went in two plays and just couldn’t get it going again and felt a little tightness and stuff. So, we had to be safe with him.”
What is his status looking like for next week?
According to Matt Barrows of The Athletic, Dre Greenlaw is day-to-day ahead of their Week 16 matchup against the Miami Dolphins.
Kyle Shanahan said Dre Greenlaw “checked out good” following Thursday’s game. he’s dealing with some knee/Achilles soreness and is considered day-to-day ahead of the next game in Miami.
