For as good as the San Francisco 49ers have been the last few seasons, that success has rarely occurred the first half of the season. The 49ers have been known to be hot and cold, up and down, at least the first 8 or 9 games of the year. Once the second half of the season begins however, for some miraculous reason, the 49ers start to hit their stride. In 2021, the 49ers finished strong winning four games in a row, eventually losing to the Rams in the NFC Championship game. At one point during the season, San Francisco crawled to a 3-5 record before they got hot. In 2022, the 49ers went on an incredible run after another slow start. San Francisco began the season 3-4 before winning 12 straight games to reach the NFC Championship, eventually falling to the Eagles. Unfortunately, the elbow injury to Brock Purdy was the difference in that contest. For as good as Purdy was in 2022, who knows what would’ve happened had he not gotten hurt. Finally in 2023, the 49ers were 5-3 the first half of the season before rolling to a 9-2 record in the second half. This remarkable run earned them a berth in the Super Bowl. It’s painfully obvious that the situation for San Francisco in 2024 looks incredibly familiar. Can the 49ers make another second half run?

Right Where We Want Them
It makes you wonder if the early season struggles is a strategy used by the 49ers. It has become routine for this team to play inconsistent football until the second half rolls around. I don’t believe that’s the case, but it certainly makes you curious. The bye week could not have come at a better time for San Francisco, The injuries to multiple players, including star running back Christian McCaffrey, continues to be a major issue for this team. That is just the tip of the iceburg when you look at the overall picture, however. The most imposing problem for the 49ers has been their lack of identity so far this season. You never know which 49er team will show up week in and week out. Obviously, once this team gets healthier, that will help, but it can only take you so far. The play calling needs to improve, the offense and defense needs to improve, quite frankly, the whole mindset of this team needs to improve. If there is any team that can turn things around quickly, it is the San Francisco 49ers. They just need to find that spark that has made them so good the last few seasons. If the 49ers are able to find that spark once again, every team in the NFL will be extremely nervous.
