Due to uncertainty and the quarterback situation, New Orleans is in a tough spot. Entering week 8, Kellen Moore decided to take a sharp turn and bench Spencer Rattler, who faced a 23-3 defeat against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This decision came into play because the team’s offense is off rhythm, and turnovers are visible. This ultimately led to Rattler’s benching and handing the position to Tyler Shough in the middle of the third quarter.

The Rattlers’ decision came after a series of inconsistent plays in the third quarter. The champion had 15 of 21 passes for 136 yards, but couldn’t have a touchdown drive and turned the ball over twice. His failure to lead the offense beyond the Bucs’ 45-yard line compelled Moore to take this decision.

But the question lies in what’s waiting ahead for New Orleans?

Saints at a Crossroads: Will Moore Stick With Tyler Shough?

After nearly three quarters of producing three turnovers and just one point against the Buccaneers, head coach Moore has seen enough. Tyler came when the team was in a tumultuous situation, down fourteen points against a defense that had already forced multiple turnovers. For the Saints, Tylor completed 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards. Additionally, he averages 4.3 yards per attempt.

The champion had one interception and two sacks. He also forced the ball much deeper into Bucs territory than Spencer did, letting the Saints pass midfield on various drives and bump the red zone late in the match.

However, the Saints again couldn’t turn those possessions into points. Drawbacks, such as a drive-ending sack in the red zone, highlighted offensive challenges in the game. Still, Tyler’s decision-making and leadership helped the team improve after the sorrowful situation.

The team’s offense ranks 25th in the NFL, averaging 17 points per game. Through eight games, they have had 14 turnovers.

Now entering week 9 against the Rams, Moore hinted at further development on the offensive side after analyzing their offense. Additionally, he will continue to evaluate the situation over the next 48 hours before deciding.

While Tyler has sparked hopes for the Saints, they still need improvement in their offense. Moore’s careful observation will decide what lies ahead for the team.
