The Alabama Crimson Tide are having a rough start to the 2025 season and things could be even more difficult as wide receiver Ryan Williams left the game with a potential head injury. The team’s offense has struggled to keep up in Week 1 against the Florida State Seminoles. Let’s take a closer look at what exactly happened to cause the injury.
Ryan Williams Leaves Week 1 Game with Injury

Ryan Williams is one of the key wide receivers for the Alabama Crimson Tide as he returned to the team after a strong freshman season in 2024. With 6:07 remaining in the fourth quarter, quarterback Ty Simpson would throw the ball up to wide receiver Ryan Williams as he attempted to make a catch on 2nd & 10, but was hit hard and his head bounced off the turf. He would stay on the ground and be helped off the field by the Alabama Crimson Tide medical staff.
The play would go under review for a potential targeting, but the referees ruled there was no targeting penalty on the play. As of this writing, Williams has not returned to the field.
Ryan Williams had a bit of a quiet game before the injury as he had recorded five receptions for 30 yards (6.0 yards per catch). There is a lot of excitement about what he could do, as last season, he finished with 48 receptions for 865 yards (18.0 yards per catch) with eight receiving touchdowns as well as four carries for 48 yards (12.0 yards per attempt) with a pair of rushing touchdowns.
We will keep you updated with any injury news or if coach Kalen DeBoer mentions the status of Ryan Williams during the postgame press conference.
