The New York Jets were named a plausible destination for a Tennessee Titans quarterback this season after Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury against the Buffalo Bills in Week 1. The Jets went all-in on Rodgers this season, and they could look for help at the position if Zack Wilson isn’t the guy.
Wilson did well at the end of Monday to lead the Jets to a come-from-behind win over the Bills. However, there are reasons for the Jets to consider bringing in a veteran quarterback.
Wilson’s play in the preview two seasons led to the Jets taking the gamble for Rodgers. But more importantly, regardless of how well Wilson might play this season, the poor offensive line that got Rodgers hurt on his fourth snap of Week 1 could collapse on Wilson this season.
Tennessee Titans and New York Jets named as possible trade partners
Kristopher Knox with Bleacher Report recently wrote about several trade options before Week 2. Knox thinks the Titans could provide the Jets depth at quarterback with Ryan Tannehill:
“The 35-year-old could still be an attractive option for QB-needy teams, as he’s a starting-caliber player and a former Pro Bowler. He’s also set to become a free agent in 2024. If the Titans’ season continues to go south, they’ll likely want to get a look at rookie Will Levis and/or 2022 third-round pick Malik Willis.
A potential market for Tannehill probably wouldn’t materialize without significant injuries at the quarterback position, but we’ve already had one. The New York Jets lost prized trade acquisition Aaron Rodgers to a torn Achilles on Monday night.
An MRI on Tuesday confirmed that the 39-year-old is out for the season.
The Jets managed to beat the Buffalo Bills with Zach Wilson under center, but given the backup quarterback’s underwhelming play as a pro to date—and their playoff expectations—New York could be interested in adding a seasoned veteran to the mix.”
Ryan Tannehill to the New York Jets makes sense
The move makes sense for the Titans. The team has a few options at quarterback. Malik Willis played well in training camp, and the team drafted Will Levis in the second round this April. They’re clearly looking to make a transition at the position.

Tannehill was linked to the Jets this spring as a potential quarterback candidate for the Jets before the Rodgers trade became official. One intriguing storyline with this trade is, would the Jets start Tannehill or keep him as Wilson’s backup?
