Eddie Goldman didn’t last long with the Atlanta Falcons
Former Chicago Bears defensive tackle Eddie Goldman signed with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason. He didn’t last long for the Falcons. After nearly two weeks with the Falcons, Goldman called it a career. His retirement was surprising as Goldman is only 28 years old.

Goldman was one of several former Bears going to the Falcons in the offseason. Ryan Pace was fired after last season as the Bears’ general manager. Pace is now the senior personnel executive for the Falcons. It would almost appear as if he’s trying to make a point about the caliber of the roster he had in Chicago.

Poles saved money by cutting Eddie Goldman
Poles is currently in the process of remaking the Bears roster. He traded Khalil Mack, let Akiem Hicks and Allen Robinson walk this offseason. The Bears lack elite talent all over the field. Josh Schrock wrote for NBC Sports about Poles’ decision regarding not inking Goldman to a new contract:
“While some were skeptical of Poles’ plan, Tuesday showed the Bears’ new general manager’s moves may have been the right ones.
Goldman, who sat out the 2020 COVID season and wasn’t himself last year, informed the Falcons he would be retiring Tuesday. The 28-year-old had an underrated career in Chicago, but Poles’ move to cut him and save the Bears’ $7 million in salary cap was the right move at the time. Goldman’s retirement further proves the Bears parted ways with him at the right time.”
Goldman was a fan favorite for the Bears. His departure is yet another hole the Bears will need to fix. But the move right now makes Poles look smart. He looks to get the win with Goldman retiring. Pace gets more egg on his face. That’s something he got a lot of with the Bears.
