Today at training camp, Buccaneers center Ryan Jensen all of a sudden collapsed on the field. He screamed out in pain and threw his helmet out of frustration. A defensive lineman had cut him on his legs and he fell over. He had to be carted off the field and taken in to run tests on his knee. Head coach Todd Bowles did not want to go into detail about the injury. More tests will have to be run on his knee which will determine the severity of the injury. Time will certainly tell the severity of the injury.
It does not look promising that the injury is a small one. A source close to the Bucs said the injury, “was not looking good.” If the injury is severe then Jensen could miss significant time this season. It would be a major loss for the offense this season. Jensen has been with the Bucs since 2018 and made his first Pro Bowl in 2021 after only allowing two sacks throughout the season. Jensen just signed a three year $39 million contract extension to keep him in Tampa through 2024. The loss of Jensen would be devastating for the offense and hurt their Super Bowl chances.
If Jensen is going to miss time, Robert Hainsey will have to pick up the slack. Hainsey is a second year player out of Notre Dame with little playing experience. While the situation does not look good, nevertheless more tests will still have to be done. There is still a small possibility that the injury could be fixed by the start of the season although the possibility looks slim.
There is still hope!
While there is concern on the offensive line, the Bucs still have many weapons at their disposal on offense. They have one of the best wide receiver groups in the NFL and it does not hurt to have the greatest quarterback of all time throwing them the ball. There is still hope for the offense and they will still have success this season.
