It’s another sad first week of December in Columbus after Ohio State fell to Michigan in a game they were supposed to win big.
Going into the weekend, everything was going right for the Buckeyes, and everything was going wrong for the Wolverines. However, it didn’t matter because Ryan Day was still on the sidelines and couldn’t get Michigan out of his head.
Ryan Day Always Punches Down
Day has been the head coach at Ohio State for the last six years, and he has been a disaster against Michigan with a losing record of 1-4 because he always shies away from the big bad bully and punches down on the people smaller than him.
On Monday afternoon, Jason Lloyd from The Athletic appeared on the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show and made a great point: Day always punches down and never punches up.
Lloyd stated that Day likes to go after people who are below him, like Lou Holtz, who called out his team for not being physical before they played Notre Dame and running the score up on Indiana last week, but when it’s time to face the tougher opponents, he brings no fight.
Day has been like this ever since he got the job in 2019, and there is no way he can be on the sidelines at Ohio State next season.
Ohio State needs to find a coach who can punch up in big moments and won’t back down, and that is something Day has never brought to the table.
The Buckeyes still have a chance to win the title this season, but knowing Ryan Day, the team will lose to Oregon or Georgia in the semi-finals, and he will be out the door.
