On Monday, the Ohio State football program will play for the eighth national title in program history as they face off against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in the season finale. In the leadup to the highly anticipated matchup, head coach Ryan Day finds himself squarely in the media’s crosshairs as he attempts to lead Ohio State to their first national championship under his tutelage. With Day destined for a battle against Notre Dame for the title of college football supremacy, the media brought up an old feud between him and former Irish bench boss Lou Holtz, which stems back to last season when the latter questioned OSU’s toughness.
Day fielded a question regarding his relationship with Holtz, expressing that they have not spoken since their back-and-forth last year. Following Holtz’s comments geared towards the culture presented by Day with Ohio State football, Day famously said, “I’d like to know where Lou Holtz is right now,“ after a road victory against Notre Dame. Nevertheless, college football fans erupted after Day shared that the two icons were still at odds.
Ohio State Football HC Ryan Day Blasted By Fans
According to On3 via Twitter:
Ryan Day revealed if he and Lou Holtz have patched things up since his heated postgame comments last season:
“No.“
Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day and former Notre Dame Fighting Irish national championship Lou Holtz have yet to make amends following a back-and-forth last season. With Holtz making remarks questioning Ohio State’s toughness, Day took a shot at the longtime Notre Dame head man turned media member following his team’s win on the road against the Irish. With the two teams playing in next week’s College Football Playoff title game, the media asked Day if he has since spoken to Holtz, with the former answering with a resounding no.
With a victory on Monday, Ohio State will earn their ninth national title and first under Ryan Day. Meanwhile, Notre Dame will secure their first national championship since 1988, when Holtz led them. With Day sharing that he and Holtz are still on shaky ground, many fans flooded social media in disbelief.
