With the 2023 XFL season beginning next weekend, it is important to know the players on the teams. There are a couple of former Rutgers players in the XFL this season. The XFL teams have officially cut their rosters to the required 51 men. Of the eight teams that will be featured in the 2023 season, just two of them will feature former Scarlet Knights. Here is a look at the former Rutgers players in the XFL.
Rutgers Players in the XFL:
Jon Hilliman – San Antonio Brahmas
Runningback Jon Hilliman was a grad transfer to Rutgers University. He began his collegiate career at Boston College. Hilliman played for the Scarlet Knights in 2018. Despite just playing for one year with the Scarlet Knights, he is still one of the former Rutgers players in the XFL.
Following his time with the Scarlet Knights, Hilliman played with the New York Giants after signing as an undrafted free agent. He actually did get playing time, as he played in three games in 2019, according to Pro Football Reference. Now, the runningback will get his shot with the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL.
Mike Tverdov – San Antonio Brahmas
Defensive lineman Mike Tverdov spent four years with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He played for them from 2018 to 2021. Tverdov played just ten games in his final season. Following his time with the Scarlet Knights, Tverdov went to the Miami Dolphins during their Mini Camp. Although the NFL did not work out for the defensive lineman, Tverdov will get his shot with the San Antonio Brahmas.
Jovani Haskins – St. Louis Battlehawks
Tight end Jovani Haskins spent two years with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights after spending two years with West Virginia. Haskins was with the Scarlet Knights in 2020 and 2021. The tight end is yet another one of the Rutgers players in the XFL this season, as he has made the final 51-man roster with the St. Louis Battlehawks.
Although once the rosters were finalized there were not many Scarlet Knights to make it into the league, many did get a shot. It was not until the roster cuts that there were only three. Despite the small amount, these players can pave the way for future Rutgers players to play in the league in the future.
The XFL will make its return Saturday, February 18th. The first game will be between the Arlington Renegades and the Vegas Vipers. Watch for these Rutgers players in the XFL this season, as they look to make their names known and get their teams a win.
