Rutgers football has continued their impressive hot streak on the recruiting trail adding three pass catchers to their future commitment classes over the past week. These pass catchers come in the form of two tight ends and one wide receiver. The news comes just under a month after Rutgers had their recruiting bonanza in June which went down as one of the best recruiting months ever in the history of Rutgers football.
Two Tight End Recruiting commits
Over the past two days, Rutgers football landed a pair of tight ends. One commitment was added to their 2025 recruitment class and the other to their 2027 class, the only commitment for that class so far. While it was only a verbal commitment, it is still impressive to see how far the Scarlet Knights are reaching into the future.
The first one they landed for the tight end position was Ben Rothhaar, who announced that he would flip his commitment from Kent State to come play for Rutgers on Friday. Rothhaar is a 6 foot 5, 210 pound, three-star tight end in the class of 2025 who caught 32 passes for 451 yards during his Junior season at Norwalk High School in Norwalk, Ohio. He is the No. 30 commit in the entire class and is the only commit from Ohio in the class.
Rothhaar will attempt to fill a position of strong need for the Scarlet Knights in the coming years. As of right now Rutgers only has one player, Victor Konopka, who has made a catch as a tight end at the college level. He and another tight end will most likely be on their way out by the time Rothhaar gets there, and there hasn’t been much promise from the current tight end room that’s in front of him.
The second tight end of the weekend that Rutgers landed was a three-star named Connor Winn. Winn is a 6-foot-3, 230-pound commit out of Bartram Trail High School in Jacksonville, Florida, and is Rutgers’ first commitment for the class of 2027. This means that he was scouted by Rutgers when he was only a freshman. Winn had taken two visits to Rutgers, both in 2023, before his commitment in July of 2024.
During his freshman year, Winn pulled in eight passes for 297 yards and three touchdowns, establishing himself as a big play threat for his high school.
Since he is so early into his recruiting process, it is important to note that his commitment to Rutgers is only verbal and can be flipped later down the line.
Wide receiver Dyzier Carter
Carter is the only non-tight end commit of the weekend as he is a 6-foot, 180-pound four-star wide receiver out of Woodberry Forest High School in Woodberry Forest, Virginia. He announced his commitment to Rutgers via X (formerly Twitter) on July 27 and became the second player in the class of 2026 to commit to the program.
During his sophomore season, Carter split time all across the offensive depth chart taking snaps at receiver, running back, and even quarterback. When he lined up as a receiver, he pulled in 20 catches for 273 yards and four touchdowns. When he was taking snaps at running back he had 36 carries for 298 yards and five touchdowns. His skill set is widely applicable and versatile but he still has a lot more to develop to establish himself as a true receiver.
