Per a report by ESPN, a key player on offense for Texas A&M is expected not to play in the 2024 season after suffering an injury. The news comes as the Aggies are less than three weeks away from playing in their season opener at home against Notre Dame on Aug. 31.
As previously discussed on GH, Notre Dame announced last week that they lost their starting left tackle, Charles Jagusah, for the season. Jagusah’s injury is a worry for a team that will face one of the more potent defenses in the nation in the season opener under first-year head coach Mike Elko.
But the Aggies will be short an offensive weapon for the contest and likely the rest of the season.
Rueben Owens is expected to be out for the 2024 season
Per Pete Thamel and Max Olson of ESPN, running back Rueben Owens is expected to miss the entire 2024 season after sustaining a lower-body injury during the Aggies scrimmage on Saturday. Per the report, Owens had a productive season in 2023 and was supposed to have a significant role on offense in 2024:
Owens produced 743 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns and earned SEC All-Freshman honors during his true freshman season in 2023.
The No. 44 overall recruit in the 2023 ESPN 300 led SEC freshmen in rushing yards (385) and kick return yards (249). The El Campo, Texas, native was set to be one of the Aggies’ top playmakers as a sophomore under new coach Mike Elko.
Texas A&M will rely on their junior running backs
The Aggies will rely on junior Le’Veon Moss and junior Amari Daniels to carry more of the load in the backfield with Owens out for the season. Moss had 484 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns on 96 carries last season. Daniels carried the ball 105 times for 532 rushing yards and six touchdowns in 2023.
