Rob Gronkowski, the former NFL star, says that he also went to the same college as the Yankees fan who grabbed and pulled at Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts’ glove to strip the ball out during Wednesday’s Game 4 of the World Series. Austin Capobianco, whom Gronkowski was friends with at the University of Arizona, was a fan. Capobianco, along with another fan, was ejected from Yankee Stadium after the incident and barred from attending Game 5. Gronkowski spoke on the matter and told host Kay Adams;
“Here’s a little fun fact… That guy right there grabbing Mookie Betts’ glove was my friend in college. He was on the ice hockey team, the club Arizona Wildcats ice hockey team. And let me tell ya, the whole hockey team were absolute maniacs. They were indescribable just how wild these guys were… animals. Him doing that represents him very well. I mean, he is all in for his teams. He is all in for the Yankees. I remember him talking about the Yankees all of the time, about how he loves them so much. And that describes him perfectly, just doing whatever it takes to help his team out.”
Rob Gronkowski spoke about the incident during an appearance on Up & Adams, where he called Capobianco a “maniac” and a “wild boy,” terms Gronk said had fit him since college. Gronkowski recalled Capobianco’s loyalty to the Yankees and how he would go to any lengths to support his team. Although initially amused, Gronk later admitted that such fan behavior was “unacceptable in the world of sports,” emphasizing respect for players and fair play.

Rob Gronkowski On Die-Hard Fans
Rob Gronkowski didn’t take issue with the glove grabbing — but did note that Capobianco’s die-hard loyalty, pushing it to the limit, and making most of the moment was true to character. Gronk’s hilarious interview quickly went viral and once again showed us the wild intersection between the world of sports fandoms and personal loyalty.
With Capobianco banned for at least Game 5, it’s uncertain when he’ll be allowed back to cheer on his team at Yankee Stadium. For now, though, Gronkowski’s story has given fans another angle on a headline-grabbing World Series moment that seems to perfectly blend sports, loyalty, and a bit of chaos.
