One word comes to mind after watching the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Green Bay Packers 34-29 in Brazil: Sloppy.
Packers fans on social media are crying that the league helped orchestrate an Eagles victory in Week 1 with some sloppy calls on Friday night.
A sloppy game for the Green Bay Packers in Brazil
The contest between the Packers and Eagles was filled with miscues, turnovers, and penalties. The game also featured million-dollar athletes slipping and sliding all over the soccer field in Brazil.
Packers quarterback Jordan Love and Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts threw inaccurate passes. Love threw an interception and running back Josh Jacobs lost a fumble. Hurts, who struggled in practices this offseason, threw two interceptions and lost a fumble.
The Packers were penalized ten times for 71 yards. The Eagles were flagged seven times for 57 yards.
Zach Kruse with The Packers Wire was upset with two holding penalties (one on Jaire Alexander and one on Kenny Clark) helping to extend a 16-play Eagles drive in the fourth quarter that took 7:52 off the clock and ended in an Eagles field goal. (The Eagles were called for an illegal formation and ineligible downfield pass on the drive, but both penalties were declined by the Packers.)
Packers fans claim the refs helped bail the Philadelphia Eagles
Here are some of the top comments on social media of NFL fans claiming the refs helped the Eagles go 1-0 on Friday night.
What’s the point of playing the game if the refs get to decide the result

How is this essentially a game ending penalty pic.twitter.com/bPCh2OoR3d

The nfl is a joke. How Is it legal to bet on fake stuff like this?

Man Packers got cheated
rigged

More I watch this the more I believe it’s rigged… The NFL is 💯 the biggest scam on the market. Refs call a holding call 2 times to save the Eagles drive is funny. Then Chris Collins worth going into halftime “Nice to get to talk to Coach Andy Reid before halftime thought I..”

#GBvsPHI refs extended the eagles drive twice #rigged

That fake holding call on Jaire at crucial time in 4th quarter changed game. Refs just call what they want and @NFLOfficiating and @NFL don’t do shit about it cuz they know we’ll still watch. Too bad they don’t let the players decide the games

If J Love is healthy we will be fine. Extremely sloppy game and we almost won. That even with the refs and those BS holding calls at the end ok GB that save Phillys drives.
