Tyler Shough, rookie quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, is having some crazy competition with QB Spencer Rattler for the QB1 position in the team. After Derek Carr’s sudden departure from the team and the league altogether, it became certain that the Saints will have to either go with a rookie quarterback whom they bagged in the second of the draft, or Rattler, who joined the team in the previous season.

According to recent reports, it looks like the Saints are all set to go with Spencer Rattler as their starting quarterback for the upcoming season, after his performance outshone that of Shough during training camp.
“The news out of Saints camp is that Spencer Rattler is out-playing Tyler Shough and is on pace to be the Week 1 starter.” sports writer Hayden Winks shared through a tweet from his X account.

Tyler Shough’s experience as a rookie definitely was rocky at the start after he sought a fully guaranteed contract. The Saints finally gave in last month, making Shough’s rookie contract historic. However, it seems like Rattler has spent way more time and energy in training and getting to know the feel of his teammates, which gives him an upper hand when compared to Shough.

With two equally talented quarterbacks at their disposal, it still remains to be seen what official decision the New Orleans Saints will make regarding their QB1 position. Right now, it looks like the team might switch between the players to try them out in the preseason, before the regular season can officially kick off.
Tyler Shough Wants An Opportunity To Prove Himself
While Tyler Shough may not be QB1 with Spencer Rattler seemingly stealing the show, the rookie is definitely not worried. In a recent conversation with reporters, Shough admitted that he hopes for a “fresh start” with the New Orleans Saints in the upcoming football season.
“Who knows who I would be or where I would be if everything had worked out differently. It worked out the way it was supposed to because now I’m in this opportunity with a great team and kind of a fresh start with a new staff.” Tyler Shough revealed in a recent conversation with reporters.

Tyler Shough also revealed that as a player in the NFL, they need to be “prepared for change” since things can go either way at any time. The rookie quarterback also admitted that this is “why some guys don’t last that long”.
